The short version
- There are no accounts. You never sign in.
- There is no analytics, no tracking, and no advertising.
- Nothing you enter is sent to me or stored on a server I control.
- Your events, reminders, settings and saved location stay on your device.
- Nothing is ever sold. The only third-party requests are the ones described below: approximate coordinates to Open-Meteo when you open the weather panel, and ordinary web traffic to the hosting and font/script services that serve the app.
Hebrew Calendar Explorer is a teaching and reference tool for the fixed rabbinic Hebrew calendar. It is free and ad-free. This policy explains exactly what the app touches, and what it does not.
What the app stores, and where
Everything you create or configure is stored locally on your own device. It is not transmitted to me and I have no way to read it. Specifically, the app saves:
- events and reminders you create in the app, including any notes and attachments
- your chosen language, colour theme, temperature unit, and candle-lighting offset
- an approximate location, if you choose to enable it (see below)
- the date of your most recent backup or restore, if you use that feature
On the web version this is held in your browser's local storage. In the iOS app it is held in the app's own storage on the device, and shared with the app's own widgets and Apple Watch app so they can display the same information.
Location
Location is optional and off until you turn it on. The app requests it only when you tap a control that needs it — sunrise and sunset times, or the weather panel.
When enabled, your approximate coordinates are stored on your device and used to calculate sunrise, sunset, solar noon and midnight, candle-lighting and nightfall times, and whether an eclipse is visible from where you are. These calculations happen on the device itself.
Your location is never sent to me, and it is never used to identify you, build a profile, or track your movements. You can revoke access at any time in your device settings, and the app will continue to work without it.
Weather
The weather panel is the one feature that sends anything off the device. If you open it, the app requests a forecast from Open-Meteo, a third-party weather service. That request includes your approximate coordinates, because a forecast cannot be produced without them. It does not include your name, your device identifier, or anything you have entered in the app.
If you never open the weather panel, no such request is made. Open-Meteo handles that request under its own privacy policy, which is linked from its website.
Calendar access
If you ask the app to add an event to your device's Calendar, it will request permission and then write only the event you asked it to write. It does not read your existing calendar entries for any other purpose, and nothing from them is transmitted anywhere. Declining permission simply means those buttons do nothing; the rest of the app is unaffected.
Reminders you create in Hebrew Calendar Explorer are stored inside the app itself and, on iPhone and iPad, may schedule a local notification (see below). The app does not read from or write to Apple's Reminders app.
Notifications
Notifications are local reminders scheduled on your device for events you created. There are no push notifications, no marketing messages, and no server involved.
What is not collected
To be explicit, the app does not collect, and I do not receive:
- your name, email address, or any account details — there are no accounts
- analytics, usage statistics, crash telemetry, or behavioural data
- advertising identifiers — there is no advertising of any kind
- your contacts, photos, microphone, camera, or health data
- the contents of your events, reminders, notes, or attachments
Third-party services
The web version loads its interface libraries and fonts from public content delivery networks (unpkg and Google Fonts). Like any web request, these carry your IP address to those providers as a technical necessity of fetching a file. They receive nothing else, and they are not given any of your calendar data.
The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs. Links to external sites — Amazon, Zenodo, Open-Meteo — are ordinary links, and those sites have their own policies.
Children
The app is a calendar and teaching reference. It has no accounts, no messaging, no user-generated content shared with anyone, and no advertising. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
Because everything is stored on your device, you control all of it. Deleting the app removes everything it saved. In the web version, clearing your browser's site data for this site does the same. Anything you added to your device's Calendar or Reminders stays there until you delete it, because those entries belong to you rather than to the app.
Changes to this policy
If the app's behaviour changes in a way that affects this policy, this page will be updated and the date at the top revised. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
